Computational Approaches to Voice Adaptation
Everyone has an accent that is shaped by our social interactions. While we are adept at recognizing and processing the variations in voices around us, adaptation to unfamiliar accents often requires additional effort. Through a series of computational modeling approaches, we are examining the extent of exposure required for individuals to adapt to unfamiliar talkers. This project, which is funded by the ICRU fellowship at the University of Iowa, is spearheaded by our lab manager Samantha Chiu and our undergraduate RA Leo Moore. We are collaborating with Zoey Liu (University of Florida), whose expertise is integral to this project.
